<INTRODUCTION>
The National College of Education play a prominet role in pre-service teacher
education in Sri Lanka.
These institutes provide pre-service teacher education based on acomplised
through a three-year course
in teadher education. In addition, NCoEs upgrade professionalism of teacher
education by providing
condinuing education through in service training.

To turn out professional teachers of a quality that is in constant demand by
the school system through initial
as well as continuing education provided by progessionally competent Teacher
Educatiors in a supportive,
resourceful and pleasant environment.

To provide to the school system competent, resourceful, effective and efficient
teachers who are professionals performing
their tasks with a sense of vommitment and dedication to meet the national
goals of education. These professionals
would always be ready to update and upgrade their knowledfe and skills and
be research oriented so as to instill quality into education.
<OBJECTIVES>
Provide to the school systen a bew set of teachers fulfillinf their duties with a proper understanding of the teachering-
learning process having proper attitudes.
Organize and implement continuing teacher education programmes to the proessional development of all teachers
in the education system and engage resource persons when necessary.
